Reviewers

Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing Research is an online, peer-reviewed scholarly journal in artificial intelligence and soft computing (theory and applications). The aim of the journal is to publish original papers that enrich the state-of-the-art of the discipline.
After the manuscript has been received and qualified as appropriate, the Editor in Chief (EiC) assigns the manuscript to an Associate Editor according to his or her technical interest profile. If the AE feels that the manuscript does not satisfy the journal requirements, he or she contacts EiC and suggests rejecting the manuscript. The paper also can be rejected without a peer review process, based on the initial screening by the EiC, or the rejection can be made at a joint meeting of the editorial board of JAISCR. The possible reasons for rejection include the content of the article (out of scope), considerable overlap with previous works, limited novelty, too highly specialized content, limited interest to JAISCR readers, and low technical quality. If the manuscript is judged appropriate, reviewers are selected. To minimize delays, three reviewers are initially contacted. JAISCR reviewers are selected by their technical interest profile, level of expertise, and experience in the subject of the paper. Reviewers are invited through e-mail to review the manuscript. In the case that the reviewer is not in the database, the AE will have to add his/her data. Reviewers who accept the invitation are given access to the manuscript and return their comments through our online editorial system. Reviewers complete a short rating scale, comments for authors, and confidential comments to the Editor. Confidential comments for Editors do not go to authors. The reviewers make an objective evaluation of the scientific merits of the manuscript.

The reviewers should address the following points:

  • Is the abstract suitable?
  • How relevant is this work for the scope of JAISCR?
  • Does the introduction clarify background and motivation?
  • Does the authors clarify what has been done and why?
  • Is the order of presentation satisfactory?
  • Are the references adequate?
  • Is the English satisfactory?
  • Technical material should be deleted/added
  • Evaluate solution methods
  • Evaluate experimental methods
  • Level of technical quality
  • Recommendation
  • Comments

Reviewers who agree to evaluate a manuscript but do not return comments on time can be replaced by additional reviewers. The AE must make sure that the reviewer remains anonymous. They check if the information stored in the review system does not carry any information about the reviewer, such as tags in files. An Associate Editor may decide:

  • to reject the paper,
  • to accept the paper with no changes,
  • to accept the paper with minor but required changes which the Associate Editor can adjudicate directly. The author returns the revised manuscript to the system, where it is forwarded to the Associate Editor,
  • to accept the paper with major, required revisions that will require a second full review cycle by the original or additional reviewers.

The EiC makes the final decision of major or minor revision, acceptance or rejection of a manuscript upon the information received from the AE. The reviews and the AE opinion is in the JAISCR submission system, so it will be invoked in the letter to the authors. For rejected papers, no further action is required. For accepted papers, the EiC requests a formatted version of the accepted manuscript submitted online in the final letter to the author. In the case of Minor Revision, the author is informed by the AE of the reviews and has 30 days to resubmit the manuscript electronically with explanations of the modifications in the comment to editors. The possible result of this review is acceptance of the manuscript, and the AE communicates the decision to the EiC for action. In the case of Major Revision, the authors have 45 days to resubmit the manuscript and explains the modifications in the letter to the editors. After the manuscript is accepted the author(s) have 30 days to submit the final manuscript in the proper format online.
